One question that I am frequently asked by couples planning their big day is whether or not a First Look on your wedding day is worth having. For those unfamiliar with the concept, a First Look is a private moment before the ceremony where the couple sees each other for the first time. This is typically with the photographer present to capture the moment.
While some couples opt to stick with tradition and wait until the ceremony to see each other, others are considering a First Look as a way to alleviate some of the wedding day stress and create intimate, meaningful photographs. So, is a First Look worth it? Here are some factors to consider:
One of the main benefits of a First Look is that it allows you to take care of photographs and other formalities before the ceremony, freeing up time afterwards for cocktails, mingling, and dancing. This can be especially useful if you are having a shorter reception or a packed schedule.
For some couples, the idea of walking down the aisle can be nerve-wracking. A First Look can help alleviate some of this anxiety by providing a private, intimate moment for the couple to connect before the ceremony.
A First Look can also be a great opportunity to capture genuine, emotional reactions on camera. Many couples report that the moment they see each other for the first time during a First Look is one of the most special moments of their wedding day.
If you are planning an outdoor wedding, a First Look can also provide some flexibility in case of inclement weather. If the ceremony needs to be moved indoors due to rain, for example, you will already have captured many of the formal photographs.
So, is a First Look worth it? Ultimately, the decision to have a First Look or wait until the ceremony is a personal one that depends on your own priorities and preferences. Some couples may value tradition and the element of surprise, while others may prioritize time and stress management.
