When a client asks for engagement photos, I have the opportunity to ensnare your most important moments and frame them beautifully in your memory. Whether a milestone or anniversary, photos are an ode to this wonderful chapter of your life. Beatrice and JP, unfortunately, had to postpone their wedding ceremony-reception THREE times only to be married in March 2020, with a very small ceremony. Nonetheless, they decided they wanted to celebrate life and have some fun images on their one-year wedding anniversary!
You know that feeling “I am just not quite there yet?” Truth be told, every person probably has had such a moment in life, but then something extraordinary happens – you change your mind! You never know where this path of “not being ready” could propel you. In fact, eventually, it brings you to “I am ready”. This precisely was their previous mindset and experience before they met each other. As an engagement photographer, I am always curious about learning the love stories of my couples. I find it fascinating how the stars align when you meet the love of your life. Beatrice confessed that she even thought that the notion of marriage felt oppressive. And yet, she ended up proposing to JP!
Having lived together for a few years, Beatrice & JP’s love grew and evolved. Previously they had some conversation about marriage, but more in a sense of preparedness. In December 2018, Beatrice felt that the time to pop the question was right. JP is a great fan of Los Angeles and a history teacher. She took him to a bar at Union Station – The Streamliner. Beatrice knew how much this location was important for Los Angeles history and that JP would appreciate it historically. She wanted it to propose in a simple way because only then it would be meaningful for them both. She proposed, he said YES! After celebrating with a few drinks, it was time to celebrate in their own way. They decided to head home and eat In-n-Out Burger to mark their new chapter. In their own words – “It was 100% us!”
Because Santa Barbara is special to them, the city where they met and fell in love; it was only natural to choose the Douglas Family Preserve in Santa Barbara as their engagement photos location. As a Santa Barbara photographer, I can safely say that this is one of the most scenic places to have your portraits taken. The beautiful coastline is bound to leave you awe-inspired! Beatrice wore a gorgeous polka dot navy dress and JP complimented her style with golden sand-toned pants and white shirt. Being their engagement photographer meant letting them be themselves and enjoy their time together with absolute joy. The views were surreal, weaving the perfect backdrops for Beatrice and JP’s precious moments together.
